What are you talking about?

Scripture says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So, what are you talking about? What you are talking about is an indication of what is inside your heart. Some excuse their mishaps and weaknesses with the statement. “God knows my heart.” God does know the heart of people and certainly he searches that inner part of everyone while men search for outward clues. The things in a person’s heart display outwardly in their perspectives, their thoughts, their choice-making, and most noticeably, their words. Your conversations are an indication of what is inside your heart. It is true that we need discernment to recognize others with harmful motives. But more important is the ability to discern your own spirit and what’s coming out of your own heart. If your words point to some ungodly ways, some anger, hurt, bitterness, unforgiveness, or fear, use David’s example and pray: “Search me God, and know my heart, try me, and know my thoughts, and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. If you hear your words sounding different from the Word of God, pay attention. When you are in conversations that do not glorify God, pay attention. When you talk yourself out of God’s best for you, pay attention. Whenever you say little phrases that agree with any negative feeling rather than speaking God’s promises to it, pay attention. Ask God to help you discover what is in your heart. What are you talking about? Important clues can be found there.
Prayer
Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139: 23)
